10/25 Progress, and 200 Followers!

Heya, all y’all!

I’m just a little late, but it’s about time that I share progress and plans.

First of all, wow, 200 followers! I’mma admit, when I posted this, I thought I’d get something around 15 followers, maybe 30. Thanks so much everyone! I guess I also have a certain other place to thank for pointing people in my direction. I still have to say hi there.

So what have I been doing the past month? First, I took a break. Getting the tutorial section down, fixing bugs, adding all of the new shiny images and drafts, and getting the mechanics working how I wanted them to took both way shorter and way longer than I expected. Making everything work in the mechanics demo took months, and taught me tons about the RPG maker engine that I didn’t even know I didn’t know. But getting everything put together in the Gameplay demo took less than a month. Then polishing everything and both commissioning and adding the art that everyone saw from the latest downloads took a while longer.

Then, I put work into trying to write music for the game. I’ve been using background ambience instead of the default RPG maker music, but I do want some music eventually. I’m not exactly a composer though–frankly I’m only experienced from the playing-an-instrument angle and that was years ago. So I spent more time trying to make the instruments than actually putting notes on the screen. Unfortunately, there’s no music update yet. I still have a lot to learn. But I’ve had this idea for a motif and that just won’t leave my head, and I gotta’ get it down somehow.

After that, I spent the last two weeks putting together the terrain for all 31 of the (exterior) maps that encompass the first region I’m making for the game: the purple Latex Corruption Region. The events haven’t been set up yet at all (That is, there’s nothing to do on those maps yet), but all of the maps are traversable, if buggy. Here’s a few of those maps:

But wait… hold on. These maps look awfully normal. Like your regular fantasy crossroads, and watchtower, and big fancy city.

Well, it wouldn’t do for the Latex Corruption region to be already smothered with purple rubber and strange lewd creatures. It needs to get there first under the guidance of Reverend Mother Melusine, with Lathe’s help…

With your help.

Anyway, the last few days I’ve been reworking the ledge system. The mechanics should be pretty similar, but I want jumping off of it to be more intuitive. This meant adding a new jump-tutorial map too.

Also, a lot of people, testers included, didn’t realize that the scent particles from different sources are different shapes. So I decided to do a full redo of the particle images. They were way too similar and the differences weren’t too easily noticed without squinting or being told first. Making it initially too obvious is better than making it too subtle.

And of course, I’ve got a nice list of bugs to finish getting through. That’s what I’ve been up to.

Game Plans

Consider adding the E/Enter key to the skill bar or something for clarity.

And then, more importantly, getting started on the events, dialogue, quests, and puzzles. A lot of people have asked about transformation. If you’re one of the people who enjoyed the idea of being corrupted and transformed by the bosses in ZXC’s Latex Dungeon and want more of that, then I have some great news for you. Erotic transformation will be central to the puzzles and narrative of Latex Island.

The tutorial was there to teach the basic sensory system and mechanics. The actual quests will be about navigating these things while wrapped in all the latex. It’s my goal to make these puzzles as kinky as I can, and I hope I can deliver.

Patreon plans

I do plan on setting one up in the near future, including alternatives. I know that I haven’t given everyone that much kinky content yet, but I’m hoping that the unique mechanics will be enough of a sign that I plan to continue, and I’m also hoping to get the first quest or two and a bunch of side things set up and posted this month.

What would the patreon money go into? Art, music, and vocal foley commissions for this game. Also, I’d be lying if I didn’t say it’d go towards the bills and the occasional game for myself, too.

I am a bit of an artist myself–I did the title image, the Cuttlefish of the Wretched icon, and the latex storm landscape. But I can’t do line art to save my life, and I’m very slow. That time would be better spent on the mechanics, puzzles, dialogue, etc. I think.

Plus, Onidis and I have been talking a lot about brand new art and creatures.

The Rest

With all of that though, I think I should ask:

Should I put together a walkthrough for Latex Island? This game isn’t as clear cut as a fight-to-see-loss-state-pictures sort of game, and for those who don’t want to do puzzles, I figure it’d be a nice resource. That said, I hope the puzzles themselves will be erotic enough to enjoy doing them.

Again, thank you all for following! It means a lot to see that so many people are eager to see more of this, and I hope I can make a great kink game with your support.

As for a walk through that seems like a good idea.
