Latex Island -- Introduction and public build notes


Heya, all y'all!

Finally, I'm posting this demo to itch.io. Between some unexpected collaboration and offers, to lots of strange bugs, to getting a proper update of the character design and sprites, it's been a longer month than I expected turning this from a great draft of a demo to a more (but not entirely) polished demo for the Tutorial area of this game.

To those who haven't seen this game yet in the few places I've posted it...

What's the point? What's even the idea?

Well, I enjoyed Latex Dungeon by ZXC a lot. It has great art, and I liked the setting it was trying to set up. The combat, although simple and easy, lent itself well to a progression of corruption over time, and it never felt like I had to grind my way through into new areas. The world felt open, and extraordinarily kinky. But I wanted more. I like the idea it introduced--becoming a servant of one of the six major 'factions'. But the quests in Latex Dungeon didn't go particularly deep.

The transformations in Latex Dungeon are amazing too, but they don't really restrict the player. They're visual, and only visual. I wanted to do more with this too. I wanted to give it more weight and turn the focus from erotic combat to erotic puzzles and the experience of transformation and restriction.

So, this meant setting up a system:

-  Movement and restriction of movement
-  A sight system with a vision cone that can be restricted via bondage, transformation, and the environment
-  A hearing system that can muffle sound, and even have the player hallucinate when deafened
-  A scent system that works best when sight and hearing are useless, based off of both the color and shapes of particles


I also want to do a lot of things with a more original setting. This was originally going to be just a mod for Latex Dungeon, but it's really turned into its own game by this point, with novel mechanics and gameplay. Furthermore, instead of being rewarded for being defeated, I want to encourage the player to seek out kink, and to realize that going after the erotic options is the most rewarding, rather than needing to avoid progression to reach it like many kink-oriented RPG Maker games.

(As an aside: Interestingly enough, there appears to be a game coming out called Rubber Island. Latex Island doesn't have any association with or connection to that game that I know of, but the timing is quite a coincidence.)
